Counseling Program
A counselor is available at all school campuses to assist students with educational, personal and social issues. Requests for student counseling can be made by parents, students, and staff by contacting the counselor.
The focus of the counseling and guidance program is on the developmental needs of the student. The counselor respects the dignity and worth of each individual responsibility and decision-making skills. The counselor provides assistance and support to staff members including:
* Educational Development
* Personal / Social Development
* Individual Counseling
* Small Group Counseling
* Referrals to outside resources
PEP: Pendergast Enrichment Program
The Pendergast Enrichment Program (PEP) is designed for those students who require special services or instruction to meet their unique needs. Areas of emphasis include; creative and critical problem-solving, research, communication, and interpersonal skill. To qualify, students must score at the 95th percentile in one or more areas (verbal, nonverbal, or quantitative reasoning) on a state approved test or by scoring 11pts.on the district approved Matrix. Students may be referred for testing by school staff or parents. Parental permission is required testing and program participation.
Testing occurs three times a year.
Special Education
Garden Lakes offers a continuum of services in the Special Education Department. Students are instructed using a multi-sensory model in reading, writing, and math. We offer speech services, as well as, occupational and physical therapy for those students who need these services.
